| Dealer | Person dealing the cards |
| Player | Person playing the game |
| Banker | Person who tracks all wagers, pays out winnings and collects players loses from them |
| Chips | Tokens. Each token is worth the amount purchased by the player divided by the number of tokens (usually 300 to a set) |
| Wager | Amount that the player bets |
| Stake | Amount that the player bets |
| Ante | Amount that the player bets |
| Let It Ride | To leave a placed bet as is (also the name of a game) |
| Raise | A bet amounting to double the players original wager |
| Cash Out | Take your winning's, pay your debts and leave |
| Single player | One player one dealer |
| Multi player | Several players (up to 8) and one or more dealers |
| Deck | One pack of 52 playing cards or 53 including the joker if playing Pai Gow |
| Hand | The number of cards per player on which play is based and the cards you have been dealt |
| Face Down | Card(s) placed face down on the table |
| Face Up | Card(s) placed face up on the table |
| Burn | To disregard the cards |
| Face Value | The value shown on cards being the same as the numbers on the cards. Picture cards are usually assigned a value of 10 |
| Aces High | The ace card being assigned a value of 11 |
| Aces Low | The ace card being assigned a value of 1 |
| Blackjack | The ace and any card with a value of 10 |
| Soft 17 | The ace and any other card(s) valued to six points |
| Suite | Cards of the same type i.e. all spades, all clubs, all hearts, all diamonds |
| Pairs | Two - two cards with the same values

| Straights | Five cards in sequence, not the same suit |

| Flushes | Flush :-
Five cards not in sequence, all the same suit Straight Flush :- Five cards in sequence, all the same suit Royal Flush :- Five cards in sequence, all the same suit must include a High Ace |
| Stand | To not accept any further cards |
| Stay | To not accept any further cards |
| Stick | To not accept any further cards |
| Twist | To request further cards |
| Hit | To request further cards |
| Go Bust | To exceed the total card value required |
| Imprison | The holding of your bet until certain criteria are met for either it's release or loss |
| En Prison | The holding of your bet until certain criteria are met for either it's release or loss |
| Double | To accept one further card having first doubled your original wager |
| Split | To split the first two cards (of equal value) dealt to you in order to form the first two cards for two new hands |
| Resplit | To split the first two cards of the newly formed hands to create a further two new hands |
| Surrender | To surrender the cards dealt to you after receiving the first two cards |
| Late Surrender | To surrender the cards dealt to you after receiving the first two cards and after the dealer has checked for Blackjack |
| Forfeit | To surrender the cards dealt to you and loose your wager |
| Fold | To surrender the cards dealt to you after receiving all cards, your wager may be lost depending on the game |
| War | To challenge the casino |
| Push | To have your original wager carried forward to the next hand or game |
